What is a dual extraction? 

An extraction is one of the many ways to access all of the medicinal compounds of a mushroom or a plant that may not be bioavailable (or easier for the body to absorb) in raw form.   

Some extracts are the result of placing raw mushrooms or plant material in a solvent such as ethyl alcohol for a period of time and then simmering in water to complete the extraction.  This will make certain compounds dissolve in different phases by separating them from the anatomic part of the plant or mushroom.  The mushroom cell walls are mostly made of Chitin, α- and β- linked glucans. The β-Glucans and other Polysaccharides that have most of the medicinal properties become available when simmered in hot water for several minutes or hours.

Why dual extraction?

It’s used for mushrooms that contain both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble active ingredients. In a dual extract the substance is first extracted in hot water and then the remaining material is extracted again in alcohol, or vice versa.  The liquids are then combined from both extractions and the final shelf stable product is achieved.    

Why using Ultrasonic-Assisted Extraction?
